V~자고 하다 [ Korean Grammar ]

Learning grammar is one of the most difficult things for Korean language learners. On this blog we will try to help you learn Korean grammar in the quickest and easiest way possible. This blog will be helpful for those who are studying Korean language and want to improve their grammar skills.

Today we’ll see how to form sentences with Korean grammar pattern " V~자고 하다 " with some example sentences.

It is used by the speaker to express what the first person initiated.

It is equivalent to saying " …. asked/said "Let's …. "

It is always used with verbs.

Rule to conjugate :

Remove 다 from the root verb and add ~자고 하다 after the stem verb irrespective of whether the verb stem ends with a consonant or vowel.

Eg :

1) 멋진나 비싼 드레스 사자고 했다. 

I said, " Let's buy a fancy or expensive dress."

2) 그냥 오랜만에 밥을 같이 먹자고 했어요. 

I just said, " Let's eat together after a long time. "

3) 학교가 끝나고 난 엄마에게 병원에 가자고 했어.

After school, I said to my mom,  " Let's go to the hospital. "

4) 또 가자고 했어요.

He said, " Let's go again. "

5) 장난감와 같이 놀자고 했다.

He asked to play with toys.

6) 이번 주말에 만나자고 말했다.

He said," Let's meet this weekend. "

7) 같이 먹자고 했다.

She said, " Let's eat together."

8) 호주에서 여행 가자고  했는데 못 갔어 일때문에.

He said, "Let's go on a trip to Australia." But I couldn't because of work.
