Difference between 어쩌면 and 아무래도

Today we’ll see the difference between 어쩌면 and 아무래도 with some example sentences.

The difference between the two is not very difficult and is quite easy to understand.

First, let's look at the meaning of 어쩌면.

어쩌면, in the simplest terms, can be understood as the words “probably,” “perhaps,” or “possibly” in English. It is used when the speaker is not certain but makes a presumed prediction about a situation.

Some examples to understand the usage :

  1. He’ll probably not show up today.

어쩌면 오늘 그가 안 올지도 모른다.

  1. It is likely that they’ll arrive on time.

어쩌면 그가 옳을지도 모른다.

With the above-mentioned examples, the meaning of the word 어쩌면 must be pretty clear by now.

Now let's look at the meaning of 아무래도.

아무래도, in the simplest terms, can be understood as "anyways" or "anyhow" in English.

It is used when the speaker wants to convey that something is true or inevitable, regardless of any circumstances or conditions.

Here are some examples to understand its usage:

  1. Anyways it didn't matter what Jisoo thought of me.

지수가 나를 어떻게 생각하는지는 아무래도 상관없었다.

I hope you're able to differentiate between the meaning and usage of the two words.
