Learning grammar is one of the most difficult things for Korean language learners. On this blog, we will try to help you learn Korean grammar in the quickest and easiest way possible. This blog will be helpful for those who are studying the Korean language and want to improve their grammar skills.

Today we’ll see how to form sentences with the Korean grammar pattern “A-아/어지다” with some example sentences.

A-아/어지다 [ Korean Grammar ]

A-아/어지다 Is used to express the change of state over time.

It is equivalent to saying " turn into " or " become " in English.

*** It is added after Adjective. Adding 아/어지다 after Adjective makes it a verb.

There are three ways to use this grammar :

  1. Adjective + 아지다
  2. Adjective + 어지다
  3. Adjective + 해지다

Rule to conjugate :

Adjective + 아지다

After removing 다 from the root word, if the stem word ends with 오 or 아 then 아지다 is used.

Eg : 싸다 - 싸지다 - 싸져요

아프다 - 아파지다 - 아파지다

Adjective + 어지다

After removing 다 from the root word, if the stem ends with anything other than 오 or 아 then 어지다 has to be used.

Eg : 아름답다 - 아름다워지다 - 아름다워져요

귀엽다 - 귀여워지다 - 귀여워져요

길다 - 길어지다 - 길어져요

Adjective + 해지다

After removing 다 from the root word, if the stem word ends with 하 then it changes to 해지다.

Eg : 심심하다 - 심심해지다 - 심심해져요

지루하다 - 지루해지다 - 지루해져요

Keeping in mind the above rule. Let's see some examples to understand it properly.

Since I moved houses, my office has gotten closer.

2) 비가 와서 날씨가 맑아졌어요.

3) 가격 상승으로 아파트 구입이 어려워졌다.

Due to rising prices, buying an apartment has become difficult.

4) 비수기 세일 기간에는 옷값이 싸져요.

5) 나이 먹어서도 예뻐져요.

6) 청소를 하고 나니 장소가 더 예뻐졌다.
