Confusing Korean Words - 좋아요 vs 좋아해요

Both 좋아요 and 좋아해요 are used to express liking for something but they are not exactly same. Both words are used differently and many beginner level Korean learners are confused between them.

Today we will explain the difference between 좋아요 vs 좋아해요 and their correct usage.

좋아요 is an adjective and literally mean – To be good, To be likeable. We use 이/가 with the noun when we use 좋아요.

N + /or /가 좋아요 N is good/ I like N.

Example Sentences:

이 옷이 좋아요.

저는 이 옷이 좋아요

커피 () 좋아요?

. 커피 좋아요.

좋아해요 is a verb and mean – To like. With 좋아해요 we use object particles 을/를 with the noun.

N + /좋아해요I like N.

Example Sentences:

이 옷을 좋아해요.

저는 이 옷을 좋아해요.

커피 () 좋아해요?

. 커피 좋아해요.
