Usage:

This grammar pattern is used to offer a suggestion or recommendation to someone. When the other person does something that does not suit the speaker this form is used to strongly suggest another action. It has the meaning of "Why don't you?"

V~์ง€ ๊ทธ๋ž˜์š”? [Korean Grammar]

It is used after a verb stem and the conjugation rule is quite simple. You just need to attach ์ง€ ๊ทธ๋ž˜์š”? directly at the end of a verb stem.

Also, the past tense form ~์ง€ ๊ทธ๋žฌ์–ด์š”? is used to express one's disapproval or regret about the fact that another person did not do something despite it having been a preferable course of action.

Let's try to understand the usage with the following examples :

1. ํ”ผ๊ณคํ•˜๋ฉด ์‰ฌ์ง€ ๊ทธ๋ž˜์š”.

If you are tired, why don't you rest?

2. ๋ชจ๋ฅด๋ฉด ๋ฌผ์–ด ๋ณด์ง€ ๊ทธ๋ž˜์š”.

If you don't know then why don't you ask?

3. ์ƒ‰์ด ๋งˆ์Œ์— ์•ˆ ๋“ค๋ฉด ๋ฐ”๊พธ์ง€ ๊ทธ๋ž˜์š”.

If you don't like the color, why don't you exchange it?

4. ๋ฐฉ์ด ์ฐฌ๋ฐ ๋ฐฉ์„์„ ๊น”๊ณ  ์•‰์ง€ ๊ทธ๋žฌ์–ด์š”.

The room is cold, you should have sat on a cushion.

5. ๊ณ ์žฅ์ด ๋‚ฌ์œผ๋ฉด ๊ณ ์ณ์„œ ์“ฐ์ง€ ๊ทธ๋žฌ์–ด์š”.

If it was broken you should have fixed it.

6. ๊ธธ์„ ์ž˜ ๋ชจ๋ฅด๋ฉด ํƒ์‹œ๋ฅผ ํƒ€์ง€ ๊ทธ๋ž˜์š”?

If you don't know the way, why not take a taxi?

7. ๋ฐฐ๊ฐ€ ๊ณ ํ”„๋ฉด ๋นจ๋ฆฌ ๋ฐฅ ๋จน์ง€ ๊ทธ๋ž˜์š”?

If you are hungry, why not eat quickly?
