Learning grammar is one of the most difficult parts of studying the Korean language. On this blog, we will try to help you learn Korean grammar in the quickest and easiest way possible.

Today, we’ll look at how to nominalise Korean verbs and adjectives into nouns, along with some example sentences.

Nominalisation is the process of making a noun from a verb or adjective.

Korean grammar patterns for nominalisation

There are four ways to nominalise which are mentioned below :

  • A / V + (으)ㅁ
  • A / V + 는 데
  • A / V + 는 바
  • A / V + 기

Is added in order to turn the adjective or verb into a noun. It turns a sentence or clause into a noun group when added.

Example :

1. 판매가 감소 함 (감소하다- 감소함)

Drop in sales.

2. 스트레스를 해소하는 데 (해소하다 - 해소하는 데)

In relieving stress / For relieving stress.

3. 역사를 이해하는 데 (이해하다- 이해하는 데)

In understanding history / For understanding history.

4. 그것에 대해서는 아는 바가 없어요 (알다-아는 바)
