Difference between 어쩌면 and 아무래도

Today we’ll see the difference between 어쩌면 and 아무래도 with some example sentences.

The difference between the two is not that difficult and pretty easy to understand. 

First let's see the meaning of 어쩌면~

어쩌면 in the most simple way can be understood as the words " probably, perhaps, possibly " in English. It is used when the speaker is not sure but presumably predicts any situation. 

Some examples to understand the usage :

  1. He'll probably not show up today.

어쩌면 오늘 그가 안 올지도 모른다

  1. It is likely that they'll arrive on time.

어쩌면 그들이 제시간에 도착할지도 모른다

  1. Perhaps he will be elected.

어쩌면 그가 당선될지도 모른다

  1. Possibly he is right.

어쩌면 그가 옳을지도 모른다

With the above mentioned examples. the meaning of the word 어쩌면 must be pretty clear by now.

Now let's look at the meaning of 아무래도~

아무래도 in the most simple way can be understood as the words " Anyways, anyhow " in English. 

It is used when the speaker wants to mean regardless of any state or condition of any situation. 

Some examples to understand the usage :

  1. Anyways it didn't matter what Jisoo thought of me.

지수가 나를 어떻게 생각하는지는 아무래도 상관없었다.

  1. Anyways it seems only reasonable to ask students to buy a dictionary.

아무래도 학생들에게 사전을 사라고 요청하는 것이 온당한 듯하다.

  1. I hope my team can win the tournament, but anyhow it looks hopeless.

우리 팀이 토너먼트에서 이기길 바라지만, 아무래도 노답인 듯.

  1. Ever since I quit smoking, I've found myself shoveling snacks in my mouth. I guess I've just got the munchies.

담배를 끊은 뒤로 나는 입에 간식을 한움큼씩 넣고 있다. 아무래도 입이 심심한 것 같다.
