Today, we'll be looking at the usage of "A/V ~(으)니까" with some example sentences.

Usage:

(으)니까 has many uses. It can be used to express a reason for an action or state. It has the same meaning as 'since’ or 'because'.

The subordinate clause (first clause) gives the reason, and the main clause (second clause) expresses the result.

A/V -(으)니까 [Korean Grammar]
The conjugation rules are :
  1. If there is no 받침 or if the stem ends with a ㄹ 받침 - A / V +니까 is used.
  2. If there is a 받침 at the end of the A/V stem - A / V + 으니까 is used.

읽다 - 읽으니까

바쁘다 - 바쁘니까

학생이다 - 학생이 니까

알다 - 아니까

듣다 - 들으니까

춥다 - 추우니까

(으)니까 can also combine with the past tense marker to describe a past event or state.

읽다 - 읽었으니까

바쁘다 - 바빴으니까

공부하다 - 공부했으니까

Let's try to understand the usage with the following examples :

1) 오늘 비가 많이 오니까 만나지 맙시다.

Let’s not meet today because it’s raining heavily.


2) 내가 잘못했으니까 내가 사과할게.

Since it was my mistake, I’ll apologize.


3) 담배를 피우니까 기분이 좋아졌어요.

I feel better after smoking.


4) 시간이 없으니까 빨리 먹자.

Let’s eat quickly because we don’t have enough time.


5) 버스에 사람이 많으니까 걸어갑시다.

There are too many people on the bus, so let’s walk.


6) 한국말을 잘 모르니까 천천히 말씀하세요.

I don’t know Korean very well, so please speak slowly.


7) 봄이 되니까 꽃이 활짝 피었어요.

It's spring, so many flowers are in full bloom.
