Today, we'll be looking at the usage of "아/어/여 놓다/두다" Korean grammar pattern, with some example sentences.
Usage:
Both 놓다 and 두다 mean release, let go, leave in English.
This auxiliary verb is combined with action verbs. It shows that the action of the verb has been completed, and the resulting condition continues.
An expression used to indicate that a certain act mentioned in the preceding statement is completed and its result remains.
Conjugation rule :
If there is no 받침 or if the adjective/verb stem has ㄹ as a 받침, add 아 놓다/두다.
If there is a 받침 at the end of the adjective/verb stem, add 어 놓다/두다.
If the stem ends with 하 add 해 놓다/두다.
Lets see some example sentences :
1. 내가 왜 이러나 싶을 때가 있어요.
There are times when I wonder why it is like this.
2. 창문 좀 열어 놓으세요.
Please leave the window open.
3. 그림을 그려 놓고 설명해 봐요.
Please draw a picture and then explain it.
4. 책을 펴 놓고 뭘 하고 있니?
What are you doing sitting there with your book open?
5. 은행 에다가 돈을 맡겨 놓고 씁니다.
I put my money in the bank and then used it
6.지수는 바람이 들어오지 않게 창문을 꼭 닫아 놓았다.
Jisoo kept the window closed to prevent the wind from coming in.
7. 내가 책장에 꽂아 놓은 책이 없어졌다.
The book I put on the bookshelf disappeared.
8. 창문을 열어 놓았더니 시원한 바람이 방 안으로 들어왔다.
I opened the window and a cool breeze blew into the room.
9. 어머니는 학교에서 돌아올 아이에게 줄 간식을 미리 만들어 놓았다.
The mother had prepared a snack for the child returning from school in advance.
10. 나는 손님이 오기 전에 집 안을 정리해 놓았다.
I cleaned the inside of the house before the guests arrived.
11. 요리가 취미이신 어머니는 냉장고에 신선한 채소와 과일을 항상 준비해 놓으신다.
My mother, who loves to cook, always has fresh vegetables and fruits in the refrigerator.
12. 지수는 자신의 일기장을 아무도 모르는 곳에 숨겨 두었다.
Jisoo hid her diary in a place no one knew about.
13. 승규는 학교에 가기 전에 새 연필 몇 자루를 꺼내어 예쁘게 깎아 두었다.
Before going to school, Seung-gyu took out a few new pencils and sharpened them neatly.
14. 나는 물건을 쌓아 두고 버리지를 않아 항상 방이 어지러웠다.
The room was always cluttered because I didn't throw things away.
15. 차와 간식을 준비해 두었으니 잠깐 드시고 가세요.
We’ve prepared tea and snacks, so please have some before you go.
16. 지수는 김치냉장고에 보관해 둔 김치로 김치찌개를 만들었다.
Jisoo made kimchi stew with kimchi stored in the kimchi refrigerator.
